Chapter 7

“So, she’s pregnant?” his mother asked when he finally made his way back home.

“Yes, mother.”

“And you are sure it's yours?” She handed him a cup of tea and came over to sit by his side.

“Yes, mother.”

“What do you want to do about it?” she asked. It was very like his mother to leave him to make his own decisions on things, and for that he loved her and respected her. Most of his friends had controlling mothers who refused to believe that they had sons capable of making decisions themselves, but he had had that freedom at a very young age, and Nathan accredited the majority of his success to that.

“I’m going to win her over,” he answered his mom’s question. If he could win big companies with a lot of high-ranking people on the board of directors over, Zara shouldn’t be too difficult to win. He hoped to God that he was right. He knew he hardly knew her, and that was something he would have to change if she was going to be the mother of his children—he wasn’t planning on stopping with just one child.

His phone rang, and he checked who it was before he answered.

“Hello, Aisha,” he said cautiously into the receiver. He didn’t know what Zara’s best friend was playing at by calling him, but Nathan believed that it would be best to listen to her, instead of jumping to conclusions like he was wont to do.

After the phone conversation, Nathan was glad that he had answered the call and spoken to Aisha, because what she had told him had left him assured and excited for the future. They had a plan.

The next couple of days were the most difficult that Zara had ever had, she contemplated her next action regularly, and as she sat across a table from Cameroon having lunch, her heart raced with the possibility that she may very well have to keep the child.

“What does your heart tell you?” Cameroon asked. When she had first told him about her dilemma, surprise had crossed his eyes.

“Who’s the father?” he had inquired keenly, eager to hear the story, and tell it she had, not sparing any details. Zara had even touched on Aisha’s involvement in the whole fiasco, and had been pleased to see that she wasn’t the only one who thought Aisha had greatly overstepped her boundaries.

“I don’t think my heart talks much,” she said, getting back to the present moment.

“Zara,” Cameroon looked pointedly at her, “I know you may not want to admit it, but this child needs a dad.”

“I know but—”

“You will need money for food and clothing.” He continued like she hadn’t said anything.

“I know but—”

“The Lamperts have a lot of money Zara,” he kept on talking. “You can’t do this alone.”

“I KNOW, BUT HE WANTS US TO GET MARRIED!” Zara exclaimed.

“You aren’t a kid anymore Zara.” Cameroon had given her an irritated look. “You two should sit down together and have a mature conversation.”

Zara had to admit that up until that very moment, she hadn’t been able to talk about the baby with anyone.
